With the research at least semi complete, I've started the initial sketches for the Adult.

The Adult

With the design of the adult I looked into creating a completely new an ‘alien’ being, trying not to resemble something from earth. As most Earth animals are quadruped in structure I wanted to avoid that:



The world I decided to create would be 50-50 land to water, with the seas deep and strong and the gravity quite heavy. There would still be varying seasons as we have seen that on various planets within our own solar system. It stands to reason that anything that moves would have seasons and varying weather.

The creatures for which this project will focus on would have developed so they make use of the land AND water. Adapting to the high gravity and pressure of the deep oceans, for this reason I’ve established they would need:

* Heavier bone density to cope with pressure and gravity
* Large eyes – double lidded to protect and waterproof the eyes in ocean depths – Since there is no light is present they would be useless but need on the surface.
* Two sets of long feelers attached to the nose act as sensors emanating and picking up sound to act as eyes while in darker depths.
* Amphibious nature – can breathe above and below the water. Unlike sea snakes of earth they can’t absorb air through the skin since it needs to be thick to protect the internal organs.
* Warm blooded in nature – highly adaptable in and out of the water – unlike cold blooded no risk of slowing down during cold weather.
* Hermaphrodite in nature when mating occurs both partners are impregnated increasing chances of survival for the young.
* Pairs mate for life – groups of pairs will group together, called a Union – usually members of the family with one dominate pair. Once the group reaches a certain limit the Union will divide in half and the new leaders will move away to establish new territory.
* Even though there is a dominate pair, during the breeding season (once a year in spring) all pairs will breed. Gestation lasts for one year, young are born the following spring when food is plentiful.

I was hoping to start on the sketches for the embryo, fetus and newborn but a few problems with my drawing tablet have meant time was wasted trying to fix it. One day I hope to acquire a new laptop >.<
